Well, here we are again.

So… I’ve decided to once again fiddle with www.adebaumann.com. I haven’t kept exact track of it, but the site seems to follow a certain pattern. Every couple of years, I fiddle around with it, then it disappears from my radar and goes to sleep for a few years until I decide the next wave of “stuff to do on the website” is due.

So far, I’ve usually rebuilt the site when I’ve tried out a new CMS. This is a similar case - although the site is now fully static. While I’m still a fan of processwire, I’ve opted for a technically different setup. The website is created using Hugo. The content files, images and everything else are kept in a Git repository. Whenever I make a change, the entire site is generated from scratch, packaged into a container together with a lightweight web server, and accompanied by an update to a separate configuration repository. From there, ArgoCD picks up the changes and deploys them to my home Kubernetes cluster.

It’s a long way from FTP-ing files to a web server, but it works – and it helps me wrap my mind around certain cloud-computing concepts that I ought to understand if I want to secure them in my day job.

Also, I went for a new design – the heavy lifting was done by a large language model, with me providing input and occasionally going “No - make that font a bit bigger”. I continue to be impressed on what a relatively straightforward statistic model can spit out.

The old blog posts and some other stuff stayed behind. I realised that I last posted just before I moved to Greece, and that’s a good six years ago by now – and the next one was a couple of years older than that. If you haven’t seen them by now – well, their relevance is approaching zero. I might put an archive of the old site under a new address at some stage, but first I’m taking care of the new one.

Some of the stuff from the old site has found a new home – I’ve built a couple of websites around baumann.gr (actually a happy coincidence… I’ve had that domain before I ever even considered moving to Greece. “.gr” was at the time the only “normal” TLD that still had “baumann” available). The “about” section explains what went where.

So. Anyway. Here we are again, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this post stayed on top of the list for a good while.
